3 Ways Every Believer Can Be Involved In The Great Commission

Great commission
Every person on earth needs to hear the message of Salvation. This message is that Jesus died for their sins, and they are reconciled to God through Christ’s death.

When Jesus was leaving the earth, He left the disciples with one command:

Matthew 28: 18-20

And Jesus cam
e and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in
[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

This is a mandate of every believer. It was not for the first disciples only, nor was it for people on the pulpit. Every believer is an ambassador of Jesus Christ, as Paul states in 1 Cor 5:18.

Why Share The Gospel?

  1. The Harvest is plentiful.

People are hungry to receive hope and peace. They are searching for it in every aspect. Little do they know that hope is in Christ Jesus. In Matthew 10:37-38,  Jesus said that the harvest was plentiful. The harvest is waiting for laborers. God chose me and you to harvest in what He labored for Himself.

The recent 1 in 6 people in the world isn't affiliated with any religion. These are minus the number of people who are religious but don't acknowledge that Christ died for their salvation. This is a ready field for believers to share the redemption message.

  1. It is the last sign of Jesus coming back.

The Disciples of Jesus asked Him what would be the last signs of Him coming back. In Matthew 24, he told them what would happen but said those wouldn’t be the last signs. The only true sign is:

Mathew 24:14 “ And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”

As we eagerly wait for the coming back of Jesus, we need to share the Gospel passionately with everyone. Jesus wants to return to a world that has heard the redemption story.

  1. It’s a command.

A command needs to be obeyed and followed. The great commission is a command given to us by our Father in heaven. Therefore, as His children, we ought to obey it. Are we being faithful to our father? Are we following him?

How Can a believer be involved?

  1. It all starts with prayer.

Jesus said to his disciples;

Matthew 9:37-38 “Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field”

We need to pray that the God of the harvest sends workers to harvest. In the book of Acts, the apostles put prayer as their number one priority. They received the Holy Spirit in the upper room praying (See Acts 2).

Even when authorities challenged them, they prayed to ask for God’s guidance and confidence. Even today, we cannot do much without advocating our time in prayer. Let’s go into our closets as we hunger for a massive harvest of souls for Christ.

2. Obedience

Sometimes as a person, you look at the world and wonder how you can share the Gospel with this pervasive world. In our ways, we can’t do it. But God desires us to obey His command of making Disciples.

In the book of Acts 10, Peter wondered why he should go to the house of a Gentile, but he did one thing he obeyed. His obedience leads to a whole house of Cornelius receiving Christ.

Today God desires that we allow him we use to reach out to people. It doesn’t matter how difficult they look; we just obey. It's the Holy Spirit that convicts souls. Our work is allowing him use as His ambassadors. Today just obey.

3. Through our Gifts and Ministries.

Although God has called every believer to the great commission, He has a special calling for each of us. As Paul knew, his calling was to the Gentiles.

Romans 15:20, “and thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else's foundation,”

We are gifted differently, and God has a reason why He has done so.

The people I can comfortably interact with may not be the people you can’t even spend a minute with. Why? Because God has given us different ministries.

We must learn to use our gifts and talents to share the Gospel. This includes our careers. God doesn’t want you to use your career only to earn a living but to make him known through it.  You have comfortably known how to interact with people around you. You can engage with them freely. As you serve and listen to them, share Christ.

We need to ask God to show us the people he wants us to reach out to.

Every believer ought to share the Gospel. It has never been easy since Jesus left. The book of Acts shows that. It is not easy now, and it is not going to be easy. But our Savior promised one thing. That He going to be with us up to the end. We are with Christ Jesus as we get involved in the Great Commission.
